Dr Ruth Amar is a researcher of the French Contemporary Novel in the Department of Hebrew and Comparative Literature.
She has published a large number of articles on the French contemporary novel, among others, on the work of Tahar Ben Jelloun, J.M.G. Le Clézio, Michel Tournier, Andrée Chédid, Jean Echenoz, Olivier Rolin.
She is the author of three books:
Les Structures de la solitude dans l’œuvre de J.M.G. Le Clézio. (2004, ed. Publisud).
Tahar Ben Jelloun : Les Stratégies narratives, (Edwin Mellen Press, 2005).
Quête et représentation du bonheur dans le roman français contemporain : (Editions Classiques Garnier, 2016).
Her new research deals with the notion of the relationship between center and periphery, relative concepts distinguishable by the gap between them. She explores this gap and its representation in the contemporary novel, based on a comparative perspective through various cultural and linguistic lenses.
